Most likely reasons for site de-indexed in Google

If your site has been suddenly de-indexed from Google, then this chart will guide you through the most likely reasons

Site de-indexed - Quick Text View>
  • Has there been any removal requests via webmaster tools?
  • Has your site been hacked or compromised recently or currently?
  • Do you have a message from Webmaster Tools mentioning hacked spammy content ?
  • Do you show different content to googlebot and users with the intent that users should not see the text?
  • Have you very recently purchased the domain and it is preowned?
  • Do you have a DMCA notice and/or is there one in the search results when looking for your site?
  • Do you have any other sites that are in any way similar?
  • Do you duplicate, copy, or rewrite content that can be found elsewhere?
  • Is your site themed around an affiliate scheme?
  • Does your site contain a very large amount of non-exclusive content?
  • Have you recently amended or removed problem content?
Update April 2012 : This information is still current. If you have been given another reason not on this list for your site to have been de-indexed then treat with caution and look for authoritative supporting evidence.

  2. Stephen - Your site does not appear to have any exclusive content, I only see content which is published elsewhere with links to download which many would consider to be quite spammy.

  3. Heh. Your guide didn't help me much. My website completely disappeared from Google. Even site:url.tld doesn't yield any results. Can this be a fluke, or was I hit by the allmighty banhammer?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Possibly the banhammer if you have not self-removed or been hacked.. What is the site ?

  7. Help please...my site: http://sony3dtvreview.net has been delisted. This is the 2nd time. It delisted in nov 2010 and relisted in jan 2011. Now gone again...any suggestions?
    thanks,

  8. shi1haz - I still see your site indexed. Though maybe you mean that your search placements have dropped ? If that is the case, then I can see why that would be. You need to ensure your site offers more than it does at the moment so that it can stand alone and aside from affiliate based content.

  12. vira - Your site does look like it could have been removed manually by the spam team. You would need to bring it into line with the webmaster guidelines.

  14. tuntun - Your site could well have been removed for spam reasons. If you apply for reconsideration then you should get a message back saying whether you have a manual penalty. Once you are sure, you can work from there.

I have had several sites get hit with "Doorway Pages" and I have no clue why.

Here is a link to my question on Google's Forum

  16. chap chap - Your site is still indexed. It might be good if you posted examples of your other sites too.

Possibly if they consisted mainly of generic type text to jump users to other sites then it could be seen as doorway pages.

  17. My site was one of the highest ranking camcorder review sites and it has now been deindexed by google. I have written all the content myself, i believe I have a quality site. I would much appreciate your help and I would pay you if you could help me resolve this problem. My site is http://bestcamcordersunder.com

  18. John McGraw - I think the site would be viewed as a thin affiliate. I am not sure you would get back in the index in the current state should that be the case. You would need to try and make some big changes and give value aside from affiliate linked products.

  21. Its surprising for me Suddenly my site www.pccare247.com has been gone out of Google(didn't found anywhere). Is my site has banned or penalized by Google.

Google Webmaster Tool showing "This site may be in violation of Google's quality guidelines. More Details: Pages on your site may not appear in Google search results pages due to violations of the Google webmaster guidelines."

If Yes than Should I stop all the Link Building process or not?

Please suggest me relative ideas those help me to recover this dangerous situation.

  27. Hello Friend,

Nice article.. My site (www.usastoragesearch.com) is deindexed... Can you please help me with this..

    Thanks,

    1. Nikhil - To be honest, I dont think you will be able to get the site reindexed with Google and I cant really think of any changes to properly suggest. The site doesnt seem to serve a good end purpose for the user, more it seems to be generic type text and adverts.

I would probably start with a fresh site and try and make one which users can complete their search goals upon visiting.

, though it doesnt seem to be showing up too well. Check in webmaster tools or log files to see if you have had any recent indexing issues or consider any spammy marketing you might have done.

Just went to google wbmaster tools and ive seen some incoming links from china i have no idea about... For example bfsu.edu.cn that looks like a chinese university!!

Where can i see the indexing issues?

Can a competitor have created backlinks to harm my rankings? Is it that easy to sabotage a normal website? Pretty scary... Havent got much sleep today....

    1. Bad links would be the spammy ones you have made yourself as part of a poor marketing campaign. I would not worry about any that have just built up over time which are not so good, as that is quite common on the internet. So, just think of what you have done.

Regarding indexing issues, log files might show past errors if present, but the easiest way is to try Fetch as Googlebot in webmaster tools now and see if Google can access the site now.

If you have done nothing and can think of no reason then submit a reconsideration request in webmaster tools - that wont help get your site to rank in itself, but the reply message should let you know if you have a penalty or not.

    3. soniachtan - it is likely due to your content. Just not the sort of pages that Google likes to return to searches. I dont think there is anything which you could seriously do to get the site reindexed again.

  33. Can you just tell me the reason for this message from google for my site ?
We've detected that some of your site's pages may be using techniques that are outside Google's Webmaster Guidelines.
Specifically, we detected low-quality pages on your site which do not provide substantially unique content or added value. Examples could include thin affiliate pages, doorway pages, automatically generated content, or copied content.
